Being an artist is not easy. It's not something that you leave behind when you go home after work. Making art is not work, it's being. It's everything. It's your dreams and your every waking moment. In a world that measures your success by your title and pay cheque, and how many pieces of art you are turning into dollar signs, and how many people follow you and write about you, it is hard to move forward without taking 10 mental steps backward . But move forward you must in order to survive, with every hesitant - and sometimes confident - pen line and brush stroke and finger dab. It's almost impossible to work in a silo and believe that the only motivation you need is your own. Every single person wants success, but success cannot be defined in just monetary or (social) media terms. Sometimes that success comes from knowing that today you did better than yesterday and today you challenged yourself. That's all.
