Tribal Woman: Portrait, 9"x12" Limited edition of 50, Archival Pigment Print (Kuttimalu)

$ 150.00

From the series: "I wish I were a Tribal Woman", (fictitious portraits of the collective beauty of women from the tribes of India)'

Kuttimalu is from the 'Paniya(r)' tribe of the Wayanad region of Kerala. She has been affectionately called Kuttimalu since she was a baby and is truly ageless, with boundless energy, and a 4' 8" frame. It's hard to tell looking at her that she's lived a whole 65 years! Don't you love her lustrous salt and pepper ombre curls and hipster fringe - but guess what? Most all the women her age from her tribe have similar hairstyles! Her ear ornaments are made from rolled up palm leaves studded with the red 'gundu mani' seeds from the Abrus Precatorius plant. When I was little, my grandmother had a whole box of these seeds and I would play with them imagining them to be little jewels. Kuttimalu and her friends obviously found a much better way of showcasing them!

9" x 12" fine art archival pigment print on Epson cold press, bright white, 310 gsm cotton rag paper. (Printed by the same print studio that works with Kehinde Wiley - WHOA!)
